What’s On My Mind (and My Reading List) — February 2025
Congratulations! If you’re reading this, that means you’ve already made it one month into 2025!
In my lengthy writing hiatus, I’ve had to recharge my mind and body and reflect on the subjects that I have been grappling with for the last several months. I am already at work translating those thoughts into writing and I can’t wait to share them with you. In the meantime, here’s a bit of what I’m currently reading and what I plan to focus my attention on for the next two months.
Mistborn Era 2 - The Wax & Wayne Series
Having concluded the first half of Brandon Sanderson’s The Stormlight Archive, I continued my Cosmere journey by finishing the remainder of the first Mistborn trilogy. I read Mistborn: The Final Empire back in 2023. After a previously unsuccessful attempt at reading its sequel, I finished both The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages, across December and January. And now I’m craving for more!
The next saga of the Mistborn series features a massive time jump with a whole new setting and cast of characters. As this is published, I’ll be reading the early chapters of the fourth book, The Alloy of Law. I plan to continue reading the four books of Mistborn Era 2 over the next two months (and likely beyond), along with their accompanying short stories.
The Alloy of Law by Brandon Sanderson
Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson
Arcanum Unbounded by Brandon Sanderson
The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson
The Lost Metal by Brandon Sanderson
Continued Reads
In a bit of a divergence from tradition, those are the only new planned reads that I have in mind. I am still working through some of the works in my prior reading list and will proceed to take my time with them.
I do, however, have another suggested reading list that will be posted in the days following this month’s What’s On My Mind listing. That list will focus on works I have already read, as well as those that I either plan to reread or read for the first time. My ambition with that reading list will be to source it for future reading groups with readers and subscribers to the Substack.
Please keep an eye out for that list when it enters your inbox! I look forward to seeing what you have to say about the included books. Until then, happy reading!
